Risks from mosquito-borne diseases increased
The CSIRO warns that wet and warm conditions are leading to an increase in mosquito numbers. This has increased the risk of contracting mosquito-borne diseases such as Ross River Fever, Japanese Encephalitis and more.
[mosquito spread] virus was normally detected across the Northern Territory, Queensland and the Torres Strait, but recent wet conditions had created a perfect storm for the virus to also spread into NSW and Victoria.
Professor Jason Mackenzie, an internationally respected expert on mosquito-borne diseases
Can I reduce mosquito risk for my business?
The best protection is to not be bitten
Authorities have provided information packets on bite prevention suggesting that the best way to protect people is to
- Wear/ provide long clothing (mosquitos can bite a bare skin patch as small as a 50-cent piece)
- Use mosquito repellant containing DEET or Parabin on all exposed skins ( Bushman insect repellent is Australia’s number one premium insect repellent that contains DEET)
- Remove stagnant water where ever possible around the workplace
- Cover all windows, doors, vents and other entrances with insect screens
